. Just caught that gem as the last line in the first appendix to Laurent Berger’s wonderful paper An introduction to the theory of p-adic representations (see page 38). It is particularly fitting when juxtaposed with his terrific diagram of all the various rings that arise in p-adic Hodge theory. (Ps. Berger is riffing on Tolkien there, in case you missed the joke.)
